EXTENSION OF TRADE ADJUSTMENT ASSISTANCE PROGRAM.
SEC. 13803. EXTENSION OF TRADE ADJUSTMENT ASSISTANCE PROGRAM. (a) Extension.— (1) Section 285 of the Trade Act of 1974 (19 U.S.C. 2271, preceding note) is amended— (A) by striking “No” and all that follows through “and no duty” in subsection (b) and inserting “No duty”; and (B) by adding at the end the following new subsection: “(c) No assistance, vouchers, allowances, or other payments may be provided under chapter 2, and no technical assistance may be provided under chapter 3, after September 30, 1998.”. (2) Sections 245 and 256(b) of the Trade Act of 1974 (19 U.S.C. 2317 and 2346(b)) are each amended by striking “1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992, and 1993” and inserting “1993, 1994, 1995, 1996,1997, and 1998”. (b) Training.— Section 236(a)(2)(A) of the Trade Act of 1974 (19 U.S.C. 2296(a)(2)(A)) is amended by inserting before the end period “, except that for fiscal year 1997, the total amount of payments made under paragraph (1) shall not exceed $70,000,000”.
