REPORT ON MANNING STATUS OF HIGHLY DEPLOYABLE SUPPORT UNITS.
SEC. 553. REPORT ON MANNING STATUS OF HIGHLY DEPLOYABLE SUPPORT UNITS. (a) Report.— Not later than September 30, 1996, the Secretary of Defense shall submit to the Committee on Armed Services of the Senate and the Committee on National Security of the House of Representatives a report on the units of the Armed Forces under the Secretary’s jurisdiction— (1) that (as determined by the Secretary of the military department concerned) are high-priority support units that would deploy early in a contingency operation or other crisis; and (2) that are, as a matter of policy, managed at less than 100 percent of their authorized strengths. (b) Matters To Be Included.— The Secretary shall include in the report— (1) the number of such high-priority support units (shown by type of unit) that are so managed; (2) the level of manning within such high-priority support units; and (3) with respect to each such unit, either the justification for manning of less than 100 percent or the status of corrective action.
