GRANTS TO STATE AND LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT FOR TRAINING AND EQUIPMENT.

SEC. 822. GRANTS TO STATE AND LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT FOR TRAINING AND EQUIPMENT. (a) Amendment of Byrne Grant Program.— Section 501(b) of the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968 (42 U.S.C. 3751(b)) is amended— (1) by striking “and” at the end of paragraph (24); (2) by striking the period at the end of paragraph (25) and inserting “; and”; and (3) by adding at the end the following new paragraph: “(26) to develop and implement antiterrorism training programs and to procure equipment for use by local law enforcement authorities.”. (b) Authorization of Appropriations.— There are authorized to be appropriated $25,000,000 for each of fiscal years 1997 through 2000 for grants under section 501 of the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968 (42 U.S.C. 3751(b)) to be used for the development and implementation of antiterrorism training programs and to procure equipment for use by local law enforcement authorities.
