DEFINITIONS.

SEC. 6003. DEFINITIONS. As used in this title— (1) The term “foreign language instruction” means instruction in critical foreign languages as defined by the Secretary. (2) The term “institution of higher education” has the same meaning given that term by section 1201(a) of the Higher Education Act of 1965. (3) The terms “local educational agency” and “State educational agency” have the same meaning given such terms under section 198 of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965. (4) The term “Secretary” means the Secretary of Education. (5) The term “State” means any of the several States, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, the District of Columbia, Guam, American Samoa, the Virgin Islands, the Northern Mariana Islands, and the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands.
