SEC. 506. STUDY AND REPORT ON ALIEN STUDENT ELIGIBILITY FOR POSTSECONDARY FEDERAL STUDENT FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE. (a) GAO Study and Report.— (1) Study.— The Comptroller General shall conduct a study to determine the extent to which aliens who are not lawfully admitted for permanent residence are receiving postsecondary Federal student financial assistance. (2) Report.— Not later than 1 year after the date of the enactment of this Act, the Comptroller General shall submit a report to the appropriate committees of the Congress on the study conducted under paragraph (1). (b) Report on Computer Matching Program.— (1) In general.— Not later than one year after the date of the enactment of this Act, the Secretary of Education and the Commissioner of Social Security shall jointly submit to the appropriate committees of the Congress a report on the computer matching program of the Department of Education under section 484(p) of the Higher Education Act of 1965. (2) Report elements.— The report under paragraph (1) shall include the following: (A) An assessment by the Secretary and the Commissioner of the effectiveness of the computer matching program, and a justification for such assessment. (B) The ratio of successful matches under the program to inaccurate matches. (C) Such other information as the Secretary and the Commissioner jointly consider appropriate. (c) Appropriate Committees of the Congress.— For purposes of this section the term “appropriate committees of the Congress” means the Committee on Economic and Educational Opportunities 110 STAT. 3009–673and the Committee on the Judiciary of the House of Representatives and the Committee on Labor and Human Resources and the Committee on the Judiciary of the Senate.
