SEC. 510. TRANSITION FOR ALIENS CURRENTLY RECEIVING BENEFITS UNDER THE FOOD STAMP PROGRAM. Effective as if included in the enactment of the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996, 110 STAT. 3009–674subclause (I) of section 402(a)(2)(D)(ii) (8 U.S.C. 1612(a)(2)(D)(ii)) is amended to read as follows: “(I) In general.— With respect to the specified Federal program described in paragraph (3)(B), ineligibility under paragraph (1) shall not apply until April 1, 1997, to an alien who received benefits under such program on the date of enactment of this Act, unless such alien is determined to be ineligible to receive such benefits under the Food Stamp Act of 1977. The State agency shall recertify the eligibility of all such aliens during the period beginning April 1, 1997, and ending August 22, 1997.”.
