SEC. 704. DEFERRAL OF RETIREMENT DATE FOR CHAIRMAN OF THE JOINT CHIEFS OF STAFF Notwithstanding the limitation contained in the first sentence of subsection (b) of section 1251 of title 10, United States Code, the President may defer until October 1, 1989, the retirement of the 102 STAT. 1997officer serving as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff for the term which began on October 1, 1987.
