SEC. 4630. STUDY OF HOSPITAL OVERHEAD AND SUPERVISORY PHYSICIAN COMPONENTS OF DIRECT MEDICAL EDUCATION COSTS. (a) In General.—The Secretary of Health and Human Services shall conduct a study with respect to— (1) variations among hospitals in the hospital overhead and supervisory physician components of their direct medical education costs taken into account under section 1886(h) of the Social Security Act, and (2) the reasons for such variations. (b) Report.—Not later than 1 year after the date of the enactment of this Act, the Secretary shall report the results of the study conducted under subsection (a) to the appropriate committees of Congress, including recommendations for legislation reducing 111 STAT. 486variations described in subsection (a) that the Secretary finds inappropriate.
