SEC. 5307. VERIFICATION OF ELIGIBILITY FOR STATE AND LOCAL PUBLIC BENEFITS. (a) In General.—The Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996 is amended by adding after section 412 the following new section: “SEC. 413. AUTHORIZATION FOR VERIFICATION OF ELIGIBILITY FOR STATE AND LOCAL PUBLIC BENEFITS. “A State or political subdivision of a State is authorized to require an applicant for State and local public benefits (as defined in section 411(c)) to provide proof of eligibility.”.111 STAT. 603 (b) Clerical Amendment.—The table of sections as contained in section 2 of the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996 is amended by adding after the item relating to section 412 the following: “Sec. 413. Authorization for verification of eligibility for state and local public benefits.”.
