SEC. 347. SENSE OF CONGRESS ON DEPLOYMENT OF UNITED STATES ARMED FORCES ABROAD FOR ENVIRONMENTAL PRESERVATION ACTIVITIES. (a) Sense of Congress.—It is the sense of Congress that members of the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps should not be deployed outside the United States to provide assistance to another nation in connection with environmental preservation activities in that nation, unless the Secretary of Defense determines that such activities are necessary for national security purposes. (b) Scope of Section.—For purposes of this section, environmental preservation activities do not include any of the following: (1) Activities undertaken for humanitarian purposes, disaster relief activities, peacekeeping activities, or operational training activities. (2) Environmental compliance and restoration activities associated with military installations and deployments outside the United States.
