SEC. 1047 REPORT ON AL QAEDA AND ASSOCIATED GROUPS IN LATIN AMERICA AND THE CARIBBEAN.(a) Report.—Not later than 180 days after the date of the enactment of this Act, the Secretary of Defense shall, in consultation with the Secretary of State, submit to the Committees on Armed Services of the Senate and House of Representatives a report on the activities of al Qaeda and associated groups in Latin America and the Caribbean, including—(1) an assessment of the extent to which such groups have established a presence in the area;(2) a description of the activities of such groups in the area, including fundraising, money laundering, narcotrafficking, and associations with criminal groups; (3) an assessment of the threat posed by such groups to the peace and stability of the nations in the area and to United States interests; and(4) a description of United States policies intended to deal with such a threat.(b) Form of Report.—The report shall be submitted in unclassified form, but may include a classified annex.
