SEC. 356. COMPTROLLER GENERAL REPORT ON CORROSION PREVENTION AND MITIGATION PROGRAMS OF THE DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE.(a) Report Required.—Not later than April 1, 2007, the Comptroller General shall submit to the congressional defense committees a report on the effectiveness of the corrosion prevention and mitigation programs of the Department of Defense.(b) Elements.—The report required by subsection (a) shall include the following:(1) An assessment of the document of the Department of Defense entitled “Long-Term Strategy to Reduce Corrosion and the Effects of Corrosion on the Military Equipment and Infrastructure of the Department of Defense” and dated November 2004.(2) An assessment of the adequacy for purposes of the strategy set forth in that document of the funding requested in the budgets of the President for fiscal years 2006 and 2007, as submitted to Congress pursuant to section 1105(a) of title 31, United States Code, and the associated Future-Years Defense Program under section 221 of title 10, United States Code.(3) An assessment of the adequacy and effectiveness of the organizational structure of the Department of Defense in implementing that strategy.(4) An assessment of the progress made as of the date of the report in establishing throughout the Department common metrics, definitions, and procedures on corrosion prevention and mitigation.(5) An assessment of the progress made as of the date of the report in establishing a baseline estimate of the scope of the corrosion problems of the Department.(6) An assessment of the extent to which the strategy of the Department on corrosion prevention and mitigation has been revised to incorporate the recommendations contained in the report of the Defense Science Board on corrosion control issued in October 2004.(7) An assessment of the implementation of the corrosion prevention and mitigation programs of the Department during fiscal year 2006.(8) Such recommendations as the Comptroller General considers appropriate for addressing any shortfalls or areas of potential improvement identified in the review for purposes of the report.119 STAT. 3207
