SEC. 142. LIMITATION ON INITIATION OF NEW UNMANNED AERIAL VEHICLE SYSTEMS.(a) Limitation.—Funds available to the Department of Defense may not be used to procure an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) system, including any air vehicle, data link, ground station, sensor, or other associated equipment for any such system, or to modify any such system to include any form of armament, unless such procurement or modification is authorized in writing in advance by the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology, and Logistics.(b) Exception for Existing Systems.—The limitation in subsection (a) does not apply with respect to an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) system for which funds are under contract as of the date of the enactment of this Act or for which funds have been appropriated for procurement before the date of the enactment of this Act.
