SEC. 564. DESIGNATION BY MEMBERS OF THE ARMED FORCES OF PERSONS AUTHORIZED TO DIRECT THE DISPOSITION OF MEMBER REMAINS.(a) In General.—Not later than June 1, 2006, the Secretary of Defense shall complete, and the Secretaries of the military departments shall implement, Department of Defense Instruction 1300.18, including interim policy guidance, regarding the requirement to have service members designate a person authorized to direct disposition of their remains should they become a casualty. (b) Report.—Not later than July 1, 2006, the Secretary of Defense shall submit to the Committees on Armed Services of the Senate and the House of Representatives a report on the actions taken by the Secretary, and by the Secretaries of the military departments, to carry out the requirement in subsection (a).
