Sec. 429. (a) In General.—Section 636 of division A of the Treasury, Postal Service, and General Government Appropriations Act, 1997 (5 U.S.C. prec. 5941 note; Public Law 104–208), is amended—(1) in subsection (b)—(A) in paragraph (1), by striking “or”;(B) in paragraph (2), by striking the period and inserting “; or”; and(C) by adding at the end the following:“(3) a temporary fire line manager.”; and(2) in subsection (c)—(A) in paragraph (3), by striking “, and” and inserting a semicolon;121 STAT. 2152(B) in paragraph (4)(B), by striking the period at the end and inserting “; and”; and(C) by adding at the end the following:“(5) notwithstanding the definition of the terms ‘supervisor’ and ‘management official’ under section 7103(a) of title 5, United States Code, the term ‘temporary fire line manager’ means an employee of the Forest Service or the Department of the Interior, whose duties include, as determined by the employing agency—“(A) temporary supervision or management of personnel engaged in wildland or managed fire activities;“(B) providing analysis or information that affects a decision by a supervisor or manager about a wildland or managed fire; or(C) directing the deployment of equipment for a wildland or managed fire.”.(b) Effective Date.—The amendment made by subsection (a) shall take effect on the date of enactment of this Act.
