SEC. 1044. REPORT ON WORKFORCE REQUIRED TO SUPPORT THE NUCLEAR MISSIONS OF THE NAVY AND THE DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY.(a) In General.—Not later than one year after the date of the enactment of this Act, the Secretary of Defense and the Secretary of Energy shall each submit to Congress a report on the requirements for a workforce to support the nuclear missions of the Navy and the Department of Energy during the 10-year period beginning on the date of the report.(b) Elements.—Each report shall include—(1) a description of the projected nuclear missions of the Navy and the Department of Energy during the 10-year period beginning on the date of the report;(2) an assessment of existing knowledge retention programs within the Department of Defense, the Department of Energy, the national laboratories, and federally funded research facilities that support the nuclear missions of the Navy and the Department of Energy, and any planned changes in those programs; and(3) a plan to address anticipated workforce attrition, retirement, and recruiting trends during that period and ensure an adequate workforce in support of the nuclear missions of the Navy and the Department of Energy.122 STAT. 312
