SEC. 521. JOINT DUTY REQUIREMENTS FOR PROMOTION TO GENERAL OR FLAG OFFICER.(a) In General.—Section 619a of title 10, United States Code, is amended—(1) in subsection (a), by striking “unless—” and all that follows through “the joint specialty” and inserting “unless the officer has been designated as a joint qualified officer”;(2) in subsection (b)—(A) by striking “paragraph (1) or paragraph (2) of subsection (a), or both paragraphs (1) and (2) of subsection (a),” in the matter preceding paragraph (1) and inserting “subsection (a)”; and(B) in paragraph (4), by striking “within that immediate organization is not less than two years” and inserting “is not less than two years and the officer has successfully completed a program of education described in subsections (b) and (c) of section 2155 of this title”; and(3) by striking subsection (h).(b) Clerical Amendments.—(1) Section heading.—The heading of such section is amended to read as follows:“§ 619a. Eligibility for consideration for promotion: designation as joint qualified officer required before promotion to general or flag grade; exceptions” .(2) Table of sections.—The table of sections at the beginning of subchapter II of chapter 36 of such title is amended by striking the item relating to section 619a and inserting the following new item: “619a. Eligibility for consideration for promotion: designation as joint qualified officer required before promotion to general or flag grade; exceptions.”.
