SEC. 523. PROMOTION POLICY OBJECTIVES FOR JOINT QUALIFIED OFFICERS. Section 662 of title 10, United States Code, is amended—(1) in subsection (a)(2), by striking “officers who are serving or have served in joint duty assignments” and inserting “officers in the grade of major (or in the case of the Navy, lieutenant commander) or above who have been designated as a joint qualified officer”; and(2) in subsection (b), by inserting after “joint duty assignments” the following: “or on the Joint Staff, and officers who have been designated as a joint qualified officer in the grades of major (or in the case of the Navy, lieutenant commander) through colonel (or in the case of the Navy, captain)”.
