SEC. 591. PROHIBITION ON INTERFERENCE IN INDEPENDENT LEGAL ADVICE BY THE LEGAL COUNSEL TO THE CHAIRMAN OF THE JOINT CHIEFS OF STAFF. Section 156(d) of title 10, United States Code, is amended—(1) by inserting “(1)” before “The Legal Counsel”; and(2) by adding at the end the following new paragraph:“(2) No officer or employee of the Department of Defense may interfere with the ability of the Legal Counsel to give independent legal advice to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and to the Joint Chiefs of Staff.”.
