SEC. 1218. STUDY AND REPORT ON POLICE TRANSITION TEAMS TO TRAIN, ASSIST, AND ADVISE UNITS OF THE IRAQI POLICE SERVICE.(a) Study and Report.—Not later than 180 days after the date of the enactment of this Act, the Secretary of Defense, in consultation with the Secretary of State and the Government of Iraq, shall conduct a study and submit to the appropriate congressional committees a report containing the recommendations of the Secretary of Defense on—(1) the number of personnel required for Police Transition Teams to train, assist, and advise units of the Iraqi Police Service in fiscal year 2009 and in fiscal year 2010;(2) the funding required to support the level of personnel described in paragraph (1) in fiscal year 2009 and in fiscal year 2010; and(3) the feasibility of transferring responsibility for the provision of the personnel described in paragraph (1) and the support described in paragraph (2) from the Department of Defense to the Department of State.(b) Form.—The report required under subsection (a) shall be submitted in unclassified form, but may include a classified annex if required.(c) Appropriate Congressional Committees Defined.—In this section, the term “appropriate congressional committees” means—(1) the Committee on Armed Services and the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the House of Representatives; and(2) the Committee on Armed Services and the Committee on Foreign Relations of the Senate.
