SEC. 1042. STUDY ON USING MODULAR AIRBORNE FIRE FIGHTING SYSTEMS (MAFFS) IN A FEDERAL RESPONSE TO WILDFIRES.(a) In General.—The Secretary of Defense shall carry out a study to determine—(1) how to utilize the Department’s Modular Airborne Fire Fighting Systems (MAFFS) in all contingencies where there is a Federal response to wildfires; and(2) how to decrease the costs of using the Department’s MAFFS when supporting National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC) fire fighting operations.(b) Report.—Not later than 6 months after the date of the enactment of this Act, the Secretary shall submit to the congressional defense committees a report on the results of the study.
