SEC. 126. INTEGRATION OF SOLID STATE LASER SYSTEMS INTO CERTAIN AIRCRAFT.(a) Analysis of Feasibility Required.—The Secretary of Defense shall conduct an analysis of the feasibility of integrating solid state laser systems into the aircraft platforms specified in subsection (b) for purposes of permitting such aircraft to accomplish their missions, including to provide close air support.(b) Aircraft.—The aircraft platforms specified in this subsection shall include, at a minimum, the following:(1) The C–130 aircraft.(2) The B–1 bomber aircraft.(3) The F–35 fighter aircraft.(c) Scope of Analysis.—The analysis required by subsection (a) shall include a determination of the following:(1) The estimated cost per unit of each laser system analyzed.(2) The estimated cost of operation and maintenance of each aircraft platform specified in subsection (b) in connection with each laser system analyzed, noting that the fidelity of such analysis may not be uniform for all aircraft platforms.
