SEC. 228. [14 U.S.C. 81] IMPROVED SAFETY INFORMATION FOR VESSELS. Not later than 1 year after the date of enactment of this Act, the Secretary of the department in which the Coast Guard is operating shall establish a process that allows an operator of a marine exchange or other non-Federal vessel traffic information service to use the automatic identification system to transmit weather, ice, and other important navigation safety information to vessels.
