SEC. 20416. CIVIL RIGHTS OF INSTITUTIONALIZED PERSONS. (a) Exhaustion of Administrative Remedies.—Section 7 of the Civil Rights of Institutionalized Persons Act (42 U.S.C. 1997e) is amended— (1) in subsection (a)— (A) in paragraph (1), by striking “ninety days” and inserting “180 days”; and (B) in paragraph (2), by inserting before the period at the end the following: “or are otherwise fair and effective”; and (2) in subsection (c)— (A) in paragraph (1) by inserting before the period at the end the following: “or are otherwise fair and effective”; and (B) in paragraph (2) by inserting before the period at the end the following: “or is no longer fair and effective”. (b) Effective Date.—The amendments made by subsection (a) shall take effect on the date of enactment of this Act.
