SEC. 1613. CERTIFICATION AND BRIEFING ON OPERATIONAL AND CONTINGENCY PLANS FOR LOSS OR DEGRADATION OF SPACE CAPABILITIES. (a) Certification.—Not later than 120 days after the date of the enactment of this Act, the Secretary of Defense and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff shall jointly certify to the appropriate congressional committees that appropriate contingency plans exist in the event of a loss or degradation of space capabilities of the United States. (b) Briefing.—Not later than 120 days after the date of the enactment of this Act, the Secretary of Defense and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff shall jointly provide to the appropriate congressional committees a briefing on the mitigation of any loss or degradation of space capabilities pursuant to contingency plans described in subsection (a). (c) Appropriate Congressional Committees Defined.—In this section, the term “appropriate congressional committees” means the following: (1) The Committees on Armed Services of the House of Representatives and the Senate. (2) The Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence of the House of Representatives and the Select Committee on Intelligence of the Senate.
