SEC. 906. RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT. Not later than 1 year after the date of enactment of this Act, the Under Secretary for Science and Technology of the Department shall conduct a study and submit to the Director a report on mechanisms for improving the cybersecurity benefits of the .gov internet domain, including— (1) how information systems support operation of the .gov top-level internet domain, such as the registrar portal, and how these information systems can remain current with evolving security trends; (2) how the structure of the .gov internet domain program can take advantage of emerging technology and cybersecurity developments; and (3) additional mechanisms to improve the cybersecurity of the .gov internet domain.
