SEC. 209. FINES FOR UNLAWFUL BRINGING OF ALIENS INTO THE UNITED STATES. (a) In General.—Section 273 of the Immigration and Nationality Act (8 U.S.C. 1323) is amended— (1) in subsections (b) and (d) by striking “the sum of $3,000” and inserting “a fine of $3,000” each place it appears; (2) in the first sentence of subsection (b) by striking “a sum equal” and inserting “an amount equal”; (3) in the second sentence of subsection (d) by striking “a sum sufficient to cover such fine” and inserting “an amount sufficient to cover such fine”; (4) by striking “sum” and “sums” each place either appears and inserting “fine”; (5) in subsection (c) by striking “Such” and inserting “Except as provided in subsection (e), such”; and (6) by adding at the end the following new subsection:[Text of subsection (e) omitted.] (b) Effective Date.—The amendments made by this section shall apply with respect to aliens brought to the United States more than 60 days after the date of enactment of this Act.
