SEC. 6823. NATIONAL MUSEUM OF INTELLIGENCE AND SPECIAL OPERATIONS. (a) Recognition.—The privately-funded museum to honor the intelligence community and special operations forces that is planned to be constructed in Ashburn, Virginia, may be recognized, upon completion, as the “National Museum of Intelligence and Special Operations”. (b) Purposes.—The purpose of recognizing the National Museum of Intelligence and Special Operations under subsection (a) are to— (1) commemorate the members of the intelligence community and special operations forces who have been critical to securing the Nation against enemies of the United States for nearly a century; (2) preserve and support the historic role that the intelligence community and special operations forces have played, and continue to play, both in secrecy as well as openly, to keep the United States and its values and way of life secure; and (3) foster a greater understanding of the intelligence community and special operations forces to ensure a common understanding, dispel myths, recognize those who are not otherwise able to be publicly recognized, and increase science, technology, engineering, and math education through museum programs designed to promote more interest and greater diversity in recruiting with respect to the intelligence and special operations career field.
