SEC. 1636. STUDY OF WEAPONS PROGRAMS THAT ALLOW ARMED FORCES TO ADDRESS HARD AND DEEPLY BURIED TARGETS. Section 1674 of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2023 (Public Law 117-263) is amended— (1) in subsection (e), by inserting “or fiscal year 2024” after “2023”; and (2) by adding at the end the following new subsection: “(g) Authorization.—For fiscal year 2024, the Secretary of Energy may carry out activities related to the development and modification of a nuclear weapon to provide near-term capabilities that address portions of the strategy required by subsection (b)(3) using amounts authorized and appropriated for the sustainment of the B83-1 nuclear gravity bomb.” .
