SEC. 615. REPORT ON RECRUITMENT AND RETENTION OF QUALIFIED INSTRUCTORS OF THE DEFENSE LANGUAGE INSTITUTE. (a) Study.—The Secretary of Defense shall conduct a study on mechanisms to improve the recruitment and retention of qualified foreign language instructors at the Foreign Language Center of the Defense Language Institute. In conducting the study, the Secretary shall consider, in the case of a foreign language instructor who is an alien, the appropriateness of expeditious adjustment of the status of the alien under applicable immigration law from a temporary status to that of an alien lawfully admitted for permanent residence. (b) Report.—Not later than one year after the date of the enactment of this Act, the Secretary of Defense shall submit to the appropriate congressional committees a report on the study conducted under subsection (a). The report shall include such recommendations for such legislative or administrative action as the Secretary considers appropriate. (c) Appropriate Congressional Committees Defined.—In this section, the term “appropriate congressional committees” means— (1) the Select Committee on Intelligence and the Committee on Armed Services of the Senate; and (2) the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and the Committee on Armed Services of the House of Representatives.
