KING INSURANCE AND SAFETY FIRE COMMISSIONER DATE: APRIL 17, 2023 RE: REGULATIONS PARTAINING TO EXISTING ELEVATOR DOOR LOCK MONITORING ______________________________________________________________________________ RULE: Rule 120-3-25-.15 Existing Installation (General) (9) All existing automatic passenger and freight elevators shall comply with ASME A17.3 Section 3.10.12 within three (3) years of the effective date of this rule. NOTICE OF CHANGE Dear owner/user of elevators: The Office of Insurance and Safety Fire has adopted ASME Elevator Safety Code A17.3- 2017, Safety Code for Existing Elevators and Escalators. A part of this new Safety Code includes Section 3.10 Operating Devices and Control Equipment, Requirement 3.10.12 System to Monitor and Prevent Automatic Operation of the Elevator with Faulty Door Contact Circuits. All existing elevators in Georgia will be required to meet this requirement by January 1, 2025. You will need to reach out to a company that has a valid Class I Certificate of Authority to make sure you know what you will need to do to bring your equipment into compliance.
