TO: All Self-Service Storage Owners Who Sell, Solicit, or Offer Stored Property Insurance in Hawaii

SUBJECT: Limited Lines Self-Service Storage Producer License
Act 284, which became law on July 10, 2019, requires an owner of a self-service storage facility to hold a limited lines self-service storage producer license to sell, solicit, or offer coverage under a policy of stored property insurance. Act 284 takes effect on January 1, 2020.
An applicant that is an artificial person (not an individual person), must complete and submit the application Form BEPL and accompanying fee. An applicant who is a natural person (an individual), must be fingerprinted and submit the application Form HPL and fee. Both forms may be found on the Insurance Division website at http://cca.hawaii.gov/ins/producers/forms/. Information on fingerprinting and procedures may also be found on the Division's website at http://cca.hawaii.gov/ins/producers/instructions_insurance_license/, and you may schedule an appointment online at http://www.fieldprinthawaii.com. The limited lines self-service storage producer license is renewable every two years.
With proper supervision and training, employees and authorized representatives of owners who hold limited lines self-service storage producer licenses, may sell, solicit, and offer stored property insurance and need not be licensed as insurance producers.
