Section 307.1101Â General and
Specific Requirements
No person may introduce the
following types of pollutants into a POTW:
a)Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â General Requirements
1)Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Pollutants that pass through the POTW; or
2)Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Pollutants that interfere with the operation or performance of
the POTW.
b)Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Specific Requirements
1)Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Pollutants that create a fire or explosion hazard within the
POTW, including, but not limited to, waste streams with a closed cup flashpoint
of less than 60 ºC (140 ºF) using the test methods specified in 35 Ill. Adm.
Code 721.121;
2)Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Pollutants that would cause safety hazards to the personnel
operating the treatment works;
3)Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Pollutants that will cause corrosive damage to the POTW;
4)Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Pollutants that would be injurious in any other way to sewers,
treatment works, or structures;
5)Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Discharges with a pH less than 5.0, unless the POTW is
specifically designed to accommodate such discharges;
6)Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Solid or viscous pollutants in amounts that will obstruct the
flow in the POTW resulting in interference;
7)Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Any pollutant, including oxygen-demanding pollutants, at a
flow rate or concentration that will cause interference with the POTW;
8)Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Heat in amounts that will inhibit biological activity in the
POTW and interfere with the POTW;
9)Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Heat in amounts that result in temperatures in the influent to
the POTW treatment plant greater than 40 ºC (104 ºF), unless the Agency
approves alternate temperature limits in the pretreatment plan;
10)Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Pollutants that would cause the effluent from the treatment
works to violate applicable effluent standards;
11)Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Petroleum oil, non-biodegradable cutting oil, or products of
mineral oil origin in amounts that will cause interference or pass through;
12)Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Pollutants that result in the presence of toxic gases, vapors,
or fumes within the POTW in a quantity that may cause acute worker health and
safety problems; or
13)Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Any trucked or hauled pollutants, except at discharge points
designated by the POTW.
