Section 75.70 Herds
Revealing Reactors
a) The entire herd shall be placed under quarantine and the
reactor animals shall be immediately isolated from the remainder of the herd.
Reactors shall be shipped for slaughter to a public stockyards, or a marketing
center, or directly to a recognized slaughtering establishment, accompanied by
United States Department of Agriculture VS Form 1-27 Permit For Movement of
Animals and shipment reported to the Department. Reactors shall not be
diverted from the destination listed on the VS Form 1-27, and any other
shipping forms must accompany the cattle or bison to their destination. The
buyer of such animals must also ensure that the VS Form 1-27 and any other
shipping forms are given to the driver transporting the animals to their
destination.
b) All reactors shall be reactor tagged and branded by an
accredited veterinarian or a veterinarian in the employ of the Department or
the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service within 10 days after report by
the laboratory. ADE Form 1-23 (Indemnity Claim for Cattle Slaughtered) shall
be submitted in duplicate. Such reactor animals shall be shipped within 15
days after tagging and branding.
