Permit Axle Spacing Requirements

Section 554.611  Permit Axle Spacing Requirements a)         The spacing requirements for all overweight loaded routine and superload permits, as well as all towed routine permits, are as follows: 1)         the spacing between the steer axle and the first axle on the tractor tandem may not be less than 8 feet 1 inch; 2)         the spacing before the first axle of the trailer may not be less than 18 feet 6 inches; and 3)         the sum of all axle spacings must be at least 43 feet 6 inches. b)        All towed permits that do not meet these minimum spacing requirements will automatically be processed by the Department as a superload permit.
