Sec. 14. (a) "Net positive suction head (NPSH)" means the head available at the entrance or eye of an impeller to move and accelerate the
water entering the eye. This head is the gauge pressure at the suction flange of the pump plus the velocity head.
(b) "Nonswimming area" means any portion of a pool where water depth, offset ledges, or similar irregularities would prevent normal
swimming activities.
(c) "NPSH, available" means a function of the system in which the pump operates. The available NPSH at the desired rate of
flow.
(d) "NPSH, required" means a function of the pump design which varies between different makes, and a valve that must be supplied by
the pump manufacturer.
