Bulletin 2004-6 TO: All Companies With Automobile Liability Authority FROM: Sandy Praeger, Commissioner of Insurance DATE: July 28, 2004 RE: Electronic Verification of Insurance During the 2004 legislative session, the legislature passed House Bill 2545, which became law on July 1, 2004. This bill amends K.S.A. 8-173 in which proof of insurance may be verified electronically or online. The bill provides the Commissioner of Insurance with the authority to adopt rules and regulations requiring the participation of the insurance companies in this program in which they will have to submit their policyholder data electronically to the Kansas Department of Revenue, Division of Vehicles. This Bulletin is to advise you that the Commissioner, with the assistance of other stakeholders, is in the process of drafting a regulation requiring your participation in this program. We strongly recommend that you obtain documents from the Division of Vehicles that provide direction as to how they require the data to be reported. The links to these documents appear below. We also urge you to begin to prepare your systems to provide this data.
