Bulletin 2014-3 To: All Property and Casualty Insurers Authorized to Transact Business in Kansas All Excess and Surplus Lines Insurance Companies From: Sandy Praeger, Commissioner of Insurance Subject: Kansas Insurance Loss Report Form Date: October 14, 2014 We have been advised by the Kansas Fire Marshall’s Office that insurance companies are not reporting fire losses to their agency as required by K.S.A. 40-2,110, K.A.R. 22-5-3 and 22-5-4. The regulations establish the reporting forms insurers must use. K.S.A. 40-2,110 requires every property and casualty insurance company transacting business in this state to file with the state fire marshal a monthly report of each fire loss that exceeds $500.00. This applies to fire losses such as but not limited to residential and commercial buildings, crops and motor vehicles. Furthermore, a calendar year annual report is required and due to the Fire Marshal’s office by May 15th. Completed forms can be submitted by mail to the Office of the State Fire Marshal, 800 S.W. Jackson, Suite 104, Topeka, KS 66612 or by email to kilrs@ksfm.ks.gov. Insurers must also file a report if they do not have any fire losses meeting the monetary threshold. We request that insurers review their procedures and take the necessary steps to file the reports with the Fire Marshal’s office as required.
