A. The Marriage and Family Therapy Advisory Committee strives to honor the public trust in licensed marriage and family therapists and provisional licensed marriage and family therapists by setting the standards for ethical practice as described in this code of ethics. B. Licensees have an obligation to be familiar with this code of ethics and its application to their professional services. They also must be familiar with any applicable ethical codes that govern other licensure that they hold or are responsible for through certification or membership in professional organizations. Lack of awareness or misunderstanding of an ethical standard is not a defense to a charge of unethical conduct. C. These ethical standards govern the practice of marriage and family therapy and professional functioning of the advisory committee and shall be enforced by the board through the advisory committee.
