LAC 22:XV.1153. Consider and Discuss the Possibility of Appeal with the Client

A. The parent's attorney should consider and discuss with the client the possibility of appeal when a court's ruling is contrary to the client's position or interests. B. The attorney should counsel the client on the likelihood of success on appeal and potential consequences of an appeal. C. The attorney shall also comply with all ethical rules and rules of courts of appeal concerning the attorney's determination that there is a reasonable basis for the appeal. D. Depending on rules in the attorney's jurisdiction, the attorney should also consider filing an extraordinary writ or motions for other post-hearing relief.
