A. To develop rigorous and challenging standards that will enable all students to become lifelong learners and productive citizens for the twenty-first century. B. This mission statement was developed by the Louisiana Statewide Content Standards Task Force in October 1995 and has served as the focus for the standards initiatives that have been developed by the Louisiana Department of Education. Along with this mission statement, the task force also identified five foundation skills that committee members felt should be embedded in all content areas to promote lifelong learning and to prepare Louisiana students to be successful in the next millennium. C. The following five foundation skills serve as the backbone for the content standards initiative. 1. Communication 2. Problem Solving 3. Resource Access and Utilization 4. Linking and Generating Knowledge 5. Citizenship
