Purpose and Scope

(1) Purpose. The purpose of 555 CMR 6.00 is to establish rules governing the use of force by law enforcement officers. 555 CMR 6.00 is promulgated pursuant to M.G.L. c. 6E, § 15(d) requiring the Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission and the Municipal Police Training Committee to jointly promulgate rules and regulations governing the use of force by law enforcement officers. (2) Scope. 555 CMR 6.00 applies to all law enforcement officers as defined in M.G.L. c. 6E, § 1.
