Standard - Cytotechnologist: Duties and Responsibilities

A cytotechnologist shall be qualified by education, training and experience, to perform tests requiring the exercise of independent judgment and responsibility with minimal supervision by the director or supervisors. The cytotechnologist shall perform tests only in those specialities or subspecialties in which he is qualified. (A) Tests inspecialties inwhich the clinical laboratory cytotechnologist is not qualified by education, training, orexperienceshall be performed only under the direct supervision of the laboratory supervisor or a qualified technologist. (B) Anindividual qualified as a cytotechnologist solely under 105 CMR 180.165 ofthis sectionmay supervise technicians and trainees only in the specialty of cytology.
