Children as Research Subjects
Parents shall retain the right to consent to participation by their child in any medical or
psychological research. If the parents consent, the Department shall also consent. If the parents
refuse to consent, the child shall not participate. Medical research includes physical
examinations, laboratory tests of any kind, and psychological examinations and tests. For
children in the custody of the Department pursuant to a surrender for adoption, termination of
parental rights, or where parents cannot be located, the Department shall seek prior judicial
approval.
