Child and Adolescent Needs and Strengths (CANS) Certification

The following clinicians are eligible to administer the Child and Adolescent Needs and Strengths (CANS) in acute inpatient hospitals and must be certified every two years according to the process established by the Executive Office of Health and Human Services (EOHHS): (A) psychiatrists and psychiatric residents; (B) psychiatric nurse mental-health clinical specialists; (C) psychologists who have a specialization in clinical or counseling psychology; (D) social workers who have a master’s degree in social work from an accredited educational institution; and (E) counselors who have a master’s degree in counseling education, counseling psychology, or rehabilitation psychology from an accredited educational institution.
