When, during an examination or as a result of laboratory tests, a podiatrist discovers a debilitating or systemic disease (such as diabetes mellitus or ischemia caused by circulatory deficiency), the podiatrist must inform the member that a physician evaluation is necessary and must document this referral in the member's medical record. 4.
