TYLER, Commissioner BETH SAMMIS Deputy Commissioner 200 St. Paul Place, Suite 2700, Baltimore, Maryland 21202-2272 1-800-492-6116 TTY: 1-800-735-2258 www.mdinsurance.state.md.us # BULLETIN 09-19 To: All Title Insurers Re: Data Call for Title Insurance Date: July 14, 2009 Pursuant to §19-112 of the Insurance Article, the Maryland Insurance Administration ("MIA") hereby requests all insurers licensed to write title insurance in the State provide the following information related to its title insurance business: 1) A listing of all appointed title agencies/agents in the State of Maryland for calendar year 2008 and 2009 and; 2) For each such appointed agency/agent, the contractual commission percentage the company was/is obligated to pay for calendar year 2008 and 2009. The listing should also include the following information: a) Whether a single commission percentage is paid for all types of business the agency/agent places with the insurer. If so, set forth the percentage amount. b) Whether different commission percentages are paid based on the type of business placed with the insurer. If so, list each type of business and the associated commission percentage paid for each type of business placed. c) Whether there is a sliding commission schedule based upon other factor(s). If so, provide a listing of those factors and attach a copy of the schedule of commissions. d) Whether there was/is an opportunity for "contingent commissions" based upon certain triggers. If so, provide a listing of those triggers and attach a copy of those contingent commissions schedule and associated triggers. The requested information is to be provided to the MIA no later than close of business on Friday, August 28, 2009. In order to expedite this process, email transmission is requested and preferable.
