PBMs accredited by URAC are deemed to meet the requirements for pharmacy and therapeutics committees specified under Insurance Article §§15-1614 and 15-1617, Annotated Code of Maryland. As previously noted in Bulletin 08-25, no purchaser may enter into an agreement with a PBM unless the PBM is registered with the Insurance Commissioner by July 1, 2009. A purchaser includes an insurer, nonprofit health service plan and a health maintenance organization.
