BULLETIN To: All Health Insurance Carriers Re: Medical Clinical Trials Reporting Date: December 22, 1999 Bulletin: Life and Health 99-24 Section 2 of House Bill 45, Chapter 119, Acts of 1998, effective January 1, 1999, requires each insurer, nonprofit health service plan, and health maintenance organization subject to the requirements of the bill to submit an annual report to the Administration, on or before June 1 of each year, that describes the medical clinical trials covered during the previous year. These reports will be analyzed by the Administration, from which a summary will be prepared by the Administration annually. The Administration has determined that the following information is required to be submitted in the carriers’ annual reports: the types of medical clinical trials covered; the number of insureds for whom medical clinical trial benefits were paid; the agency sponsoring the medical clinical trials covered. The first report is due June 1, 2000. The carrier is responsible for the compilation of this information. If the carrier cannot determine the specific information from its own records, the carrier is encouraged to contact the appropriate health care providers or other appropriate entities to assist in the collection of this information.
