Area Agency on Aging Advocacy Responsibility
PURPOSE: This rule requires the area agency on aging to carry out activities to advocate
in the interest of older adults.
(1) The area agency on aging shall serve as
the advocate for older adults in the planning
and service area by performing at least the
following activities:
(A) Monitor, evaluate and comment on all
policies, programs, hearings, levies and community actions which affect older adults;
(B) Solicit comments from the public on
the needs of older adults;
(C) Represent the interests of older adults
to public officials, public and private agencies, or organizations;
(D) Carry out activities in support of the
department’s Long-Term Care Ombudsman
Program; and
(E) Coordinate planning with other agencies and organizations to promote new or
expanded benefits and opportunities for older
adults.
(2) The area agency on aging shall develop
and implement written policies and procedures that describe how it carries out advocacy activities.
